Wandering Words

"We're making the Global Village a better neighborhood!"

I wanted to take a moment to share the changing seasons with you as they pass through Utah.  I love to watch the arrival of autumn.  The changes from summer to autumn have become less of an enigma to me and more of a signal to watch for with anticipation.  One of the first signs is the spectacular electrical storms.  There seems to be an increase in thunderstorms during autumn.  Warm days with gathering clouds metamorphosing into bulky thunderheads in the afternoon and early evening.  The mountain sides begin to fade into shades of burnished orange, ruddy red and warm yellow.  An afternoon drive through the mountains (especially Millcreek Canyon) inspire thoughts of magical forests.  The trees in Millcreek Canyon form an ethereal canopy of golden leaves over the road.

As we fade from autumn into winter, the changes are less dramatic.  The snow arrives quietly.  Usually the first snowfall occurs on a cold and rainy day, brown earthy leaves on the ground, when the rain will turn gently into the first large snowflakes of winter, falling softly, and soundlessly to the earth.

As we experience the wonder of autumn, I want you to remember that each one of you are very important and that is the reason I keep putting this zine together!  I get very discouraged sometimes when I listen to the news, but I hope that if enough people show that they care about each other we can somehow make a difference!  So, welcome again to the pages of the hidden hour!

All of the contributors have been hard at work making this zine a special one.  We hope that you enjoy your time within the hour.  In a perfect world you could go grab a mug of hot cocoa, while the zine's printing, find your perfect reading chair (the one with the pillows and a blanket) and settle down to rejuvenate your spirits.

Brightest wishes,

Suzanne Nikolaisen
